Mining attributes in the center of Houthalen

PIT HEAD WHEEL

On 2 December 2013, the town council, together with a delegation of former mine workers and members of the De Klonkviool historical and folklore circle, unveiled the restored mine shaft wheel on the Beursplein behind Greenville.

This work of art continues to pay homage to the mine workers who lost their lives in the Houthalen coal mine 

 

 

THREE COAL WAGONS (DRIJ BERLENGS)

with which around 1000 kg of coal per wagon were able to be transported.

 

 

COMPRESSED AIR LOCOMOTIVE, of type 'HOEK',

for the transporting of coal, staff and equipment wagons in the underground tunnels of a coal mine

 

 

EXTRACTION DRUM OF THE RECESS MACHINE, of type 'HZIB',

which made it possible to mechanically mine the coal layer up until the far ends of the columns.
